A Late-Summer Herbal Reset

Refresh your routines and reconnect with what makes you feel nourished

August has a special kind of energy. Summer is still here, the days are still warm and there’s plenty of time to enjoy everything the season brings. At the same time, you can begin to feel a shift. Schedules start changing, routines begin returning and fall slowly appears on the horizon. It’s a beautiful time to refresh your wellness rituals.

A late-summer reset can be as simple as clearing out your herbal cabinet, preparing nourishing foods for the week or returning to a morning ritual you love. Think of it as creating a little more intention around the habits that help you feel your best.

Refresh Your Herbal Cabinet

Start with the herbs you already have. Take everything out of your herbal cabinet and spend a few minutes going through it. Check your herbs for freshness, reorganize your jars and bring the ones you want to use more often toward the front. You may even rediscover something you forgot you had.

Choose two or three herbs to focus on throughout August and think about how you want to use them.

Hibiscus might become your afternoon iced tea. Nettle can become part of your weekly infusion routine. Peppermint or ginger can find their way into your after-meal ritual. Making your herbs visible makes it easier to actually enjoy them.

Give Your Kitchen a Seasonal Refresh

Your kitchen can set the tone for your wellness routine.

Wash and prepare fresh produce after grocery shopping. Keep fruit somewhere visible. Fill glass containers with ingredients you use regularly. Prepare a few simple foods that make meals easier to put together throughout the week.

You can also create an herbal section in your refrigerator. Keep a pitcher of infusion ready to pour, fresh herbs washed and accessible, and perhaps a homemade herbal snack waiting for later. A little preparation can make nourishment feel effortless throughout a busy week.

Reconnect With Your Digestion

Late summer brings an abundance of beautiful foods.

Peaches, tomatoes, berries, melons, cucumbers, zucchini and fresh herbs can all inspire colorful meals while they're still in season. This is also a lovely time to become more intentional about how you experience your meals.

Sit down when you can. Take time to chew. Notice the flavors. Add herbs and spices that make your food exciting. Ginger, peppermint and fennel are a few herbs traditionally enjoyed around mealtimes and can easily become part of your kitchen routine. A meal can be both nourishment and a moment to reconnect with yourself.

Choose a Morning Anchor

As schedules become fuller, a simple morning ritual can create consistency. Your anchor could be making tea before checking your phone. It could be drinking a glass of water, stepping outside for morning sunlight, stretching for five minutes or preparing breakfast before starting your day. Keep it simple enough that you can return to it regularly. One intentional choice in the morning has a way of influencing everything that comes after it.

Make Something With Your Herbs

Use August as an invitation to create.

  • Make an herbal iced tea blend.

  • Try an herbal snack.

  • Infuse an oil.

  • Experiment with a new tea combination.

  • Dry fresh herbs from your garden.

  • Make an herbal syrup or prepare something you've been curious about.

Herbalism becomes especially enjoyable when you're able to experience the plants with your own hands.

Pick one small project and make an afternoon out of it.

Carry the Best of Summer With You

A seasonal reset is an opportunity to notice what you've loved about the past few months.

Maybe you've spent more time outside.

Maybe you've eaten more fresh fruit.

Maybe you've discovered a favorite herbal drink or started visiting the farmers market.

Choose something from your summer rhythm that you want to carry into the next season.

Our routines can grow alongside us, and every season gives us another opportunity to decide what we want more of.
